Fluvanna County Habitat for Humanity is always looking for people interested in getting involved. There are many ways that you can contribute to the efforts of Habitat whether you are an individual, a business, a church, or a youth group. Monetary donations are not the only way that you can help. You can also help by donating some of your free time, some home building materials you may have, or even by donating some land you own in Fluvanna County.
Who can help?
Individuals like you
Habitat is always looking for help from people like you. There are many ways to get involved, such as helping out with a new home being built, joining one of our committees, or just helping us answer the phone. Download a volunteer sign up sheet by clicking on the link at left.
Businesses involved in the community
Businesses can help with donations of money or services, and by supporting our Golf Tournament and other fundraising events.
Local area churches
Churches can help by promoting our activities, donations of money (covenants) and assistance with workgroups. If you are interested in becoming a covenant church, or if you would like to learn more about what it entails, click here.
Youth Groups
Youth groups can help with fundraising and the provision of workgroups.
What do we need?
Time
If you have some time to spare (even just an hour or so) there is work to be done.
Some typical examples:
Checking the Answering Machine – passing-on messages
Making phone calls to volunteers for specific projects
Stuffing envelopes
Acknowledging donations
Providing lunches for site workers (weekends)
Construction Work
Site Clearance
Landscaping
Painting
Money
We always need money to buy land, building materials, and some subcontracted services. There are other ways you can contribute money to Habitat as well, such as:
Donations of cash or stocks/bonds may be tax deductible
Legacies or wills
Participation in the Food Lion MVP (charities) program
Participation via the Combined Virginia Campaign
Donation of services – legal, accounting, printing/copying, construction (including utilities), site clearance, landscaping, block work, roofing, drywall etc.
Materials
We are always pleased to accept donations of building materials that can be utilized in the house currently planned or under construction. Unfortunately, due to limited storage space we cannot accept surplus building materials and household goods ourselves, but we would refer you to the Charlottesville Habitat Store that can accept surplus building materials and appliances for storage and resale, the funds going to support Habitat activities. We may accept donations of tools and building equipment to meet our requirements.
Land
We regularly need land for building in Fluvanna County. Although donations of land would be gratefully received, we can buy land if suitable and the price is right. If you have land, or know someone who has building land available, please leave a message for Jay at (434)589-3752.
