Fund Raising Committee
The Fund Raising Committee is comprised of Board Members and volunteers whose responsibility is to plan functions to raise the funds that will allow us to reach our goal of building at least one a house a year to eliminate sub-standard housing in Fluvanna County.
There are currently two primary fundraisers each year, the Golf Tournament in mid-July and the Annual Appeal Letter in mid November. However, the Fund Raising Committee must augment the monies received from these annual events with funds from other events during the year.
The Committee determines the fund raising event(s), develops the plan for them and solicits approval from the Board of Directors. Once the approval is given, the Committee implements the approved plan and solicits volunteers to make it a success.
The Committee is always looking for new and creative ideas for fundraising and welcomes any suggestions and/or help.
Construction Committee
The Construction Committee is comprised of Board Members and volunteers whose responsibility is to construct the new home. This includes everything from developing the house plans, getting the permits, preparing the site, and ordering the materials, to hands on building.
Although experienced carpenters and other trades people are always welcome,no experience is necessary. We will provide training and we can even provide you with the necessary tools; volunteers just need to supply their time and energy.
Church Relations Committee
The Church Relations Committee is comprised of Board members and volunteers who are responsible for finding ways to involve area churches with Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity to work together to fulfill Habitat’s mission of building affordable and decent housing for lower income families in the county.
Although Habitat was founded as a Christian organization, we are open to people of all denominations, races, and cultural backgrounds who believe in the idea of building decent homes for and with needy families as an expression of their faith.
Churches can be involved in a number of ways. It might be through taking up a special collection, or providing a work party during construction of a house. It might be sponsoring a fundraiser, with the proceeds donated to Habitat A church can become a Covenant Church which is an annually renewable written commitment that pledges to pray for Habitat’s ministry and to contribute financially in some way.
Committee members, if requested, will visit local churches to talk about Habitat and discuss what each church can do to help.
Business Relations Committee
The Business Relations Committee is made up of Board members and volunteers whose objective is to promote recognition of Habitat with area businesses and educate businesses on Habitat's role in the community.
This committee develops relationships with businesses, visits with leaders in the business community, and determines methods for recognizing businesses for their support of Habitat.
Family Selection Committee
The Family Selection Committee is made up of Board members and volunteers to review all applications for housing and determine who will be the next Habitat homeowner.
Applications are taken only for a specified time period, which is announced in local publications and through Social Service Affiliates in the local area. After that time the Family Selection Committee reviews each application to determine the needs of the family and their ability to afford a Habitat Home. This will involve credit checks, on site home visits in their present living quarters, and interviews with potential homeowners.
Once this review process has been completed, the Family Selection Committee makes their recommendation to the Board of Directors and asks for the Board’s approval.
Once an agreement has been reached and papers signed by the potential homeowner and the Board President, a member of the Family Selection or other Board member becomes the family’s “advocate”. This advocate helps the family through all facets of the building process, from groundbreaking to dedication.
Awards and Recognition Committee
The purpose of the Awards and Recognition Committee is to identify a process whereby individuals and businesses will be recognized for outstanding contributions to Fluvanna County Habitat for Humanity, whether financial, material, through volunteer work or as demonstrated leadership in the attainment of Habitat's goals.
